The Kalmar Läns Museum
The Kalmar Lans Museum is the responsibility of a Foundation, with the Regional Government, the Municipality and the Community Council as the principal participants. The Museum is fortunate to exhibit finds from the Royal ship Kronan, a warship sunk during a sea-battle off Oland in 1676. The Museum is active in marine archaeology. As well as 30,000 finds from the Kronan, it has at least 2000 exhibits illustrating seafaring, fishery and skerries culture, and a large number of photographs on the subject of seafaring. The collection further includes 35 shipmodels, three fishing skiffs and three dugout canoes. The Kalmar Läns Museum is additionally responsible for the medieval boats which formerly delivered supplies to the castle at Kalmar, and which are now stored there.
